Ok, there have been 7 days since the last update and we’re not quite done but the progress on site has been IMMENSE! I can’t overstate how impressed I am with the guys from MBC, who quite happily put in 12 hour days, but especially the legend that is Brendan.
Let me just re-state that figure for the 1 or 2 builders I know read this blog. 12 hour days. There is a reason they work 12 hours though – we don’t want to disturb the neighbours any more than we have to so they have to cut their day short! Legends, the lot of them!!!
By way of a welcome back to site I knocked up a quick breakfast for the chaps. Superb sausages from the local artisan ‘farm’ shop down the road.
Beaming…
Resolving the beam issue has been harder than it ought to have been. It turns out that not only was the beam made too deep and the holes drilled in the wrong place but it was twisted by 12mm. This is a 2-tonne steel beam and it is twisted. More delays – great.
The long and short of it is that it’s resolved but it took a few days. With hindsight, a new beam would have been the better solution but given that it was allowed out of the factory like that I’m not really that sure we wouldn’t have had another just the same. So, we move on…
Raining…
It has rained. A lot. Not much more can be said about that other than the team worked solidly through it all.
Progress
It does help when the numbers on site grow from 4 to 9 but the last few days have seen massive progress. There will be no apologies for the number of photos to follow, but they certainly tell a better story of what has happened than I can.
So, heading into another weekend and most of the team have left for home – all that is apart from a couple of guys that will be putting in 7am-7pm shifts to try and get the roof finished before Monday morning.
Looks like I’ll be cooking some more sausages in the morning!
